Honestly Dad: Masculinity, Connection and 3 groups of dads at risk

By Andrew Pain 2 min read

My brand new keynote talk on men and fatherhood was always a question of ‘when’ - not a question of ‘if’ - and it’s now arrived!

As a father of 5, so far:

  • I’ve raised girls and boys
  • I’ve experienced years of parenting within domestic abuse and the inevitable family court drama which followed it.
  • I’ve worked through the complex challenges posed by a blended family.
  • I’ve experienced the very best and worst of married life whilst parenting.
  • I’m still experiencing the challenges of building a business and juggling parenting (my wife is employed by the NHS and not able to work from home).

Fatherhood is the longest chapter in my new book, ‘Honestly, Man’ (published on August 6th) and now has its own, stand-alone keynote talk. It’s a topic I’m massively passionate about from a personal perspective of course, and more widely, because the mental and physical wellbeing of the men we employ, and the chances for the next generation, depend to a large degree on fatherhood: the joys, challenges and how we can support dads to be the best they can be.

So, if you’re wondering what to do this year to honour International Men’s Day on November 19th, why not book a speaker to bring the topic of fatherhood to life, and equip working dads to juggle the demands of work and parenting?

In my keynote talk, we cover:

  1. Why fatherhood is so important for both children and dads themselves - what does the evidence say?
  2. Why fatherhood is so challenging today (including burnout, screen culture, and the inadequate UK paternity leave allowance) and powerful, easy-to-use techniques to help time-poor dads to connect with their kids.
  3. How to inspire your children to deal with adversity, using the language of T.E.S.T. Marginal Gains and The Progress Principle.
  4. How to adjust our thinking about masculinity, so that as dads, we’re positive role models for the next generation of people.
  5. Three groups of dads at increased risk of poor mental/physical health and how to best support them in the workplace?

If you’re look for something different for November - something memorable, engaging, and uplifting - get in touch and let’s talk!
